CVSA Operation Safe Driver Week Announced for July 11-17

Tosha Missel, PacLease Marketing Specialist

Are your drivers prepared for the CVSA Operation Safe Driver Week to be held July 11th -17th, with an emphasis on speeding?

In spite of the miles driven dropping 13% over the last year, it is estimated that about 42,060 people died in vehicle crashes in 2020 according to the National Safety Council. This is a 24% increase over the previous year, and the highest estimated year-over-year spike since 1924, with an estimated 4.8 million serious injuries caused by motor vehicles. The CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver Program was created to reduce the number of crashes that involve commercial motor vehicles and passenger vehicles due to unsafe driver behavior.

During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement will be on the lookout for both commercial motor vehicle drivers and nearby passenger vehicle drivers engaging in risky driving behavior. These risky behaviors include but are not limited to speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, aggressive driving, improper lane changes, failure to obey traffic control devices, failure to wear a seat belt, and impaired driving. Shifting driver behavior is important, therefore unsafe drivers will be pulled over and cited or issued a warning.

As CVSA Operation Safe Driver Week approaches, make sure to get your drivers prepared. Data has shown that problematic driving behaviors decrease with traffic stops and interaction with law enforcement. Help your fleet reduce the trend and reduce the chance of infractions.
