CVSA’s International Roadcheck Is Scheduled for May 14-16

By Tosha Missel, Senior Marketing Specialist

Mark your calendar, as the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) International Roadcheck has been announced for May 14th to May 16th. The International Roadcheck is a rigorous initiative focused on inspecting and enforcing regulatory compliance for commercial motor vehicles. Is your fleet ready for the challenge? This high-visibility operation spans three days and includes inspections in Canada, Mexico, and the United States to ensure compliance with regulations and safety in all three countries.

Each year CVSA’s International Roadcheck places particular emphasis on addressing specific categories of violations. This year's event will concentrate on two key areas: tractor protection systems and the possession of alcohol and controlled substances.

Furthermore, the International Roadcheck aims to raise awareness among drivers, motor carriers, technicians, and enforcement personnel regarding the significance of tractor protection systems. These vital components, including the tractor protection valve, trailer supply valve, and anti-bleed back valve, are often overlooked during trip and roadside inspections. CVSA has published an inspection bulletin outlining the proper steps for inspecting tractor protection systems to assist drivers and motor carriers in effectively assessing and maintaining these components.

2023 International Roadcheck Results

As part of the 72-hour 2023 International Roadcheck inspection and enforcement initiative by CVSA, a total of 59,429 commercial motor vehicles were inspected across Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. Results indicated that 81% of the commercial motor vehicles and 94.5% of the commercial motor vehicle drivers inspected had no out-of-service violations.

As May 14th quickly approaches, make sure your fleet is prepared and your drivers know what to expect. The CVSA emphasizes the importance of continuous proactive vehicle maintenance, which not only keeps your business operations running smoothly but also guarantees the safety of your drivers and the public. Moreover, maintaining your fleet properly significantly reduces the risk of your trucks being placed out of service.
