Say Thanks to a Truck Driver - It's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

Katie Patterson, PacLease Events and Branding Specialist

You name it, and someone delivers it. Every day, millions of Americans rely on the trucking industry to deliver the goods they need on time. September 11th – 17th is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, and there are many ways you can show your appreciation. Keep reading to learn more about the industry and how you can show your appreciation.

The Trucking Industry

The trucking industry has a significant impact on the economy. Without truck drivers, the world would come to a standstill. The trucking industry employs over 3 million drivers and is responsible for over 10 billion tons of freight transportation in the United States. They keep our country moving by transporting goods across state lines and to ports for traveling overseas. Without trucks transporting goods from place to place, the shelves at stores would be empty, manufacturers would run out of materials for production, and farms would have few options to ship their produce across the country. Whether you share the road with a heavy duty truck, manage truck drivers, or purchase goods that were delivered by trucks, there are a lot of truck drivers to thank this week.

Show You Care

Take a moment to thank a driver by being safe on the road. This may seem like a simple gesture, but it can mean a lot to truck drivers. Trucks need more space than cars, so it's important for all of us to be aware of their challenges. Here are some tips for being a good neighbor on the highway:

  • Keep your distance. 18 wheelers have blind spots that can make it hard for drivers to see you, so give them space.
  • Don't cut off trucks when merging onto the highway or changing lanes. Give them ample room so they can merge safely.
  • Try not to tailgate a truck if you can help it; it's dangerous for both of you!

Spread the Word

Along with highway safety, you can tag social media post with #ThankATruckDriver.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a time to celebrate and thank the men and women who keep our country moving. They spend long hours on the road, often driving through difficult weather conditions. Truck drivers are often overlooked as they drive through towns and cities, but they have a major impact on our lives.

Truck drivers are an integral part of our nation’s transportation system and help keep our economy running smoothly. To show them how important they are to us, take some time this week to thank a truck driver.
